The right placement of the air conditioner is needed to ensure cool airflow in a large room within a short time, without sacrificing the aesthetics of the interior.
Ensuring comfort for the people who carry out the service in a big square meters auditorium is the main goal of installing AC at GKRI. That’s why time is crucial. At least 15 minutes before people enter the room, the auditorium’s temperature should be
already cool, therefore people will be comfortable even when the service will take a long time. Energy efficiency should also be taken into account so that the coolness is evenly distributed throughout the room, but the airflow does not blow to the audience directly.
It’s also important to note that the placement of the AC unit will not sacrifice the aesthetic of its interior design. There are many cases where air conditioners are placed in large rooms without proper attention, so the air conditioners hang on either side of the wall which reduces the overall beauty of the interior. Not to mention that a large number of AC units may cause noise that will hamper the room’s acoustic. This should not happen as there will be live music in the room. The auditorium also functions as a recording studio, so extra noise from the air conditioner needs to be minimized as much as possible.
To overcome these challenges, the key is to find the right placement of AC. It could be a ‘hidden’ room above the fire escape or dedicating several different spaces to house the AC units. The type of air conditioner is also special, in this case, an AHU (air handling unit) type is used which is more suitably designated for the light commercial class. The interior which is entirely made of wood also provides its challenges.
Careful and precise attention must be paid to how to place the AC unit so that the air in and out is maximized without neglecting the existing wooden panel joints. Fluctuating air requirements in commercial areas should be put to attention. The number of attendees for example, whether there are a lot of few people in the room, the airflow should not make them feel hot or vice versa.
Installing AC units in commercial areas has a higher level of difficulty, bearing in mind that amid these special requests, there are many limitations encountered in the field. That’s why all calculations must be made in as much detail as possible, starting from the electrical system, ducting, and access for maintenance, to the speed to cool a large room in a short time.
